NYS DEC takes home pair of New York Emmys
(WENY) -- Last Summer, the New York State DEC spent countless hours combating invasive species of all kinds across the Empire State. Two members of DEC's staff recently won a New York State Emmy Award for their documentation of the fight against invasive species.
Josh Thiel, DEC's Invasive Species Coordination Section Chief, and Emma Antolos, a DEC Public Participation Specialist, won awards for producing in the documentary topical category for their work on "Uninvited: The Spread of Invasive Species." The two led experts from multiple partners including DEC's Division of Lands and Forests, Cornell University, the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Preservation, and others to raise awareness of the threat that invasive species pose to the state's ecosystem.
"It's a unique opportunity for us to use a platform to highlight the threat of invasive species in New York and approach an audience and engage in an interesting way that we don't normally get to do at a State Agency," remarked Thiel.
The documentary was published to DEC's YouTube channel in November of 2021 and was funded thanks to the State Environmental Protection Fund.
