WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (WENY) -- An accessible playground is in the works to be built at Clute Park in Watkins Glen.

An open house was held Tuesday night to talk about plans for the playground.  According to the designer, the plans are about halfway done.  During the beginning stages, children were asked what they would want to see in a park, and parents were also asked for their input.

There will be handicapped accessible ramps, swings that are able to accommodate everyone, a carousel that is wheelchair accessible, special flooring for walkways, and many more thought out features.  One of the highlights is that this will be a park everyone can enjoy.  Months of planning has gone into making this playground into a valuable community asset.

"Just coming to the lake in the summer, and seeing all the kids playing in Clute Park, its an amazing benefit for the town to have something so amazing right on the water.  So really, this playground is hoping to support the community to really create a destination playground for people to come and visit," said Travis Ewen, the lead landscape architect and designer for the playground.

There are still a couple of things in the works, and some plans that need to be approved, but the playground is expected to be up and running by the end of the year.  The Village of Watkins Glen will post if there will be any more open houses about the playground.
