Man accused of drunkenly ramming car off the road in Chemung

TOWN OF CHEMUNG, N.Y. (WENY) -- A trail of "fluid" is what police say led them to find the person who is allegedly responsible for drukenly ramming a car off the road causing it to flip over in the Town of Chemung last Thursday evening.
According to the Chemung County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called out to County Road #2 near Hoffman Hollow Road for a report of a crash. Two people were found in an overturned van. Both people were taken to Robert Packer Hospital for minor injuries.
Deputies say the driver of the van told them that he was hit multiple times by another driver in a pickup truck before his van went off the road and flipped.
At the scene, deputies found debris from a pickup, and fresh fluid on the roadway. Deputies followed the fluid, where they say they found a pickup truck on Hoffman Hollow Road. The driver was determined to be 38-year-old Ryan E. Purvis.
Purvis was charged with DWI and Assault 3rd.
The Sheriff's Office said more charges are likely, and the investigation is ongoing. The Sheriff's Office said New York State Police assisted in the incident.
