SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WENY) - The Corning boys bowling team made school history after taking home the NYSPHSAA Division I title Sunday afternoon.

After a successful regular season, the Hawks started out the day with a bang. Senior Cameron Kennedy bowling a perfect first game (300) and recording a 295 in his fifth game. He finished the day with a 1381.

"It gave me a lot of confidence going in so I'm just glad I had my team behind me. It was a good experience", said Kennedy. "It feels great. I've been waiting for it for about five years so I'm glad we finally got it."

Peyton Nelson finished next for the Hawks in 8th place overall. Nelson finished the day with a six game series total of 1274.

In 12th place was Camryn Stefanini. The senior ended the tournament with a total pin count of 1234.

"I think it's a very big accomplishment", said Stefanini. "I think it shows just how much a score doesn't matter. It's about how much passion you have and how much of a team you can have and how much you guys can work hard and push forward and keep up the good scores. It's definitely like he said, a big accomplishment. We've both been waiting a very long time and we both knew it was coming it was just when it was coming."

Zach Sturdevant and Dante White finished in the 15th & 18th spots. As a team, the Hawks finished with a grand total pin count of 6264 to take first place.

To celebrate the win, the team was police escorted down Market Street in Corning and to the high school. Head coach William Condon was emotional and grateful walking off the bus with his winning team in front of him.

"It's very overwhelming, you know just to be, to come back, have a police escort like that with all the lights. You get one hometown, to make your mark", said Condon. "These kids deserve this, it's really been wonderful. The kids were prepared. It's an extraordinary group of young men and they were ready to go."

This is the first bowling state title for Corning-Painted Post.
