ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) - The Elmira College women's hockey team lost to Middlebury in the Frozen Four in 2022. Now, the Soaring Eagles are back in the national semifinal and they hope to get some revenge.

Elmira and Middlebury will go head-to-head for a Frozen Four rematch on Friday in River Falls, Wisconsin.

Elmira stands at 22-7-1 overall. EC beat Cortland, 3-1 in the first round followed by an overtime thriller over Amherst last weekend to get to the semifinals. Middlebury is 18-6-4 overall as the Panthers rolled to an 8-0 win over Western New England in the first round then beat Plattsburgh State, 2-0 in the quarterfinals.

The Panthers have six players with 15 points or more this season while the Soaring Eagles have eleven.

The winner heads to the National Championship to face either UW-River Falls or Adrian on Sunday at 4 PM eastern time.

Head Coach, Greg Haney says the team has really come into their own over the last couple of weeks. He talked about facing this Middlebury team and what the message is as the team tries to punch their ticket to the National Championship.

"wE SEEM TO LIKE THE MATCHUP" hANEY SAID. THEY ARE THE SAME WAY AS US, THEY ARE FAST, THEY ARE SKILLED, THEY SHOOT VERY WELL SO WE'RE EXPECTING A CLOSE ONE."

"WE'VE BEEN TALKING ABOUT SOAKING IT IN AND HAVING FUN AND ENJOYING NOT ONLY THE SMILE ON YOUR FACE, BUT THE one that the FRESHMAN ARE GETTING, THE SENIORS THAT ARE SEEING IT GO AROUND FOR ANOTHER TIME, AND they're like WOW WE MISSED THIS AND we WANTED IT BACK and NOT EVERYBODY gets THE OPPORTUNITY TO HAVE THAT FEELING. SO WE'RE JUST TALKING ABOUT STAYING CONSISTENT, DOING WHAT WE DO. THIS TEAM HAS A LOT OF FUN as a GROUP WHETHER IT'S ON OR OFF THE ICE" he added.

The team knows what it will take to be on the winning end against middlebury this time, and they are excited for the opportunity to compete for a national title.

"I FEEL LIKE HARD WORK FROM THE BOTTOM UP" said senior, Lexi hoffman. "I THINK AS LONG AS WE'RE ON OUR A-GAME AND PLAYING, EVERYBODY'S PLAYING THEIR ROLE. WE TALK ABOUT THAT A LOT ON OUR TEAM. It's JUST LIKE KNOWING YOUR ROLE AND PLAYING YOUR ROLE. AS LONG AS EVERYBODY IS DOING THAT, WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO DO THAT.

"BEING A PART OF THE TEAM THIS YEAR IS PRETTY SPECIAL" said senior Emily lenzen. WE HAVE SUCH A GOOD GROUP THAT WE Can PROBABLY TAKE IT ALL THE WAY IF WE KEEP RIDING THE WAVE THAT WE ARE, KEEP THE MOMENTUM GOING."
