Around 93% of schools in Pennsylvania teach about the holocaust, genocide, and human rights. But some lawmakers say that isn’t enough to stamp out disinformation when young people get older.

This week in Harrisburg, Senator Doug Mastriano held a press event touting a new Senate bill on the topic.

The bill would mandate teaching about the Holocaust, other genocides and human rights in all schools across the commonwealth.

One of the speakers at the event was a holocaust survivor, who has advocated for more education across the U.S..

"Holocaust is not just a Jewish issue,” said Sami Steigmann, the speaker. "It is a universal, humanitarian issue. It’s the best example to understand what hate can do to a person, a group of people, a nation, to the world.”

Currently the state says that as long as over 90% of schools teach related curriculum, there is no need for a mandate.
