CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) -- Ten days worth of steals and deals at Steuben County eateries start Friday under a program called Savor Steuben.

Twenty-two local businesses are participating in the event, which runs from March 22 to March 31. They include restaurants, wineries, breweries and bakeries, among others.

"Some of them will be offering certain dollar amounts off of a flight or a pint," said Dave DeGolyer, Communications Director for Explore Steuben. "Some of them are having special menu items that they don't normally have."

Representatives from Explore Steuben will be at various locations around Steuben County handing out gift cards for participating businesses throughout the duration of the event.

"We're going to be out and about here and there, surprising some folks. Basically, as a way of saying thank you for supporting the local culinary establishments," DeGolyer said.

Staying in Steuben County, 2 popular areas and a popular event have been nominated by USA Today's 10Best Readers' Choice Awards for their impact on the community and travelers.

Corning has been nominated for Best Small Town Cultural Scene, Centerway Square in Corning was nominated for Best Public Square and the Wegman's Wineglass Marathon was nominated for Best Half Marathon.

"We don't nominate ourselves. The editors from USA Today's 10Best and travel experts, travel writers and influencers who've come to the area, they're asked to make these nominations every year, and they're the ones who actually say, 'Hey, Corning's special.'," DeGolyer said.

Voting ends for Best Public Square April 8. The Best Small Town Cultural Scene, and Best Half Marathon polls close on March 25.

"What it is is a feather in the cap, and it's kind of a great way to promote [the area]," said DeGolyer.
