CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) -- Corning's West End Gallery hosted an opportunity for local art fans to see an oil painting created from scratch.

The Gallery hosted artist Bruce Baxter, who had contributed to a handful of works already displayed in-studio. Baxter created an oil painting based off of a provided photograph while attendees asked questions regarding the art making process and the ways he approached painting.

West End Gallery has been highlighting local artists to build a creative community right here in the Southern Tier.

"When you walk in the door, you can see the painting, you see the brushstrokes, you see the colors in a different light that the artists use, and the texture. When we hold events like this, for example the opening receptions, you have a chance to meet the artist which takes it to an entirely different level. You get to put the name to the face to the painting," remarked Jesse Gardner, West End's Owner and Director.

More of Baxter's work is being featured in West End's Spring Spotlight Exhibit which can be viewed in person at the gallery or online up until May 2nd. There will also be six more live painting demonstrations at West End during the weekend of April 27th and 28th.
