ALBANY, NY (WENY)--A WEEK PAST ITS ORIGINAL DEADLINE, THE NEW YORK STATE BUDGET CONTINUES INTO OVERTIME.

ONE OF THE BIGGEST HURDLES SEEMINGLY HOLDING UP THE BUDGET IS HOUSING.

FOR WEEKS LAWMAKERS HAVE BEEN NEGOTIATING WITH THE GOVERNOR A HOUSING DEAL.

“There are some differences, but I have been working hard to bring all the parties together and it's beyond just this legislature, and leaders it is factors out in the community,” said Gov. Kathy Hochul.

THROUGHOUT HOUSING BUDGET TALKS DEMOCRATS HAVE STRESSED THEY WANT A HOUSING DEAL WITH TENANT PROTECTIONS SUCH AS GOOD CAUSE EVICTION, WHILE REPUBLICANS PUSH AGAINST THE IDEA.

THE GOVERNOR SEEMS TO BE SUPPORTIVE OF CERTAIN TENANT PROTECTIONS SUCH AS PRICE GOUGING—THE PRACTICE OF INCREASING THE PRICE OF GOODS AND services TO A MUCH HIGHER LEVEL WHAT IS CONSIDERED FAIR.

“I want to make sure that people are not abusing our tenants. We’ll focus on anti-gouging and what is reasonable for them to have to endure at a time when people are feeling under siege with the cost of living so high so there’s a lot of factors at play here,” she said.

In budget talks, tHE GOVERNOR IS ALSO HOPING TO ADDRESS LABOR UNIONs.

THE FINAL BUDGET HAS BEEN EXTENDED AGAIN TO APRIL 11.
