BATH, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Village of Bath and the Town of Woodhull are getting over $14 million in federal funding to improve natural gas infrastructure.

Bath is getting $9.3 million in funding. According to Republican Congressman Nick Langworthy, Bath will spend the money to replace 11.9 miles of natural gas piping, and buy methane leak detection equipment.

"These funds are critical to advancing and re-investing in our infrastructure, so we can continue delivering safe, reliable, and affordable natural gas to homes and businesses across our community," said Michael Sweet, Village of Bath Mayor.

The Village will spend almost the full amount of the funding injection to replace natural gas pipes. Officials are planning to use just $89,000 to buy the leak detection equipment.

"This investment will fortify our infrastructure and guarantee families and businesses in Bath a stable and secure energy supply for generations to come,” said Langworthy, who represents the 23rd District of New York, which includes Steuben, Chemung and Schuyler Counties.

Woodhull is getting $4.9 million to replace over 6 miles of piping.

The funding is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation's Natural Gas Distribution Infrastructure and Safety Modernization Grant Program.
