UPDATE 4/19: Elmira Police released information Friday morning regarding the incident involving a barricaded person in the city.

Authorities say officers first responded just before 10PM to the 400 block of West First Street, where an officer saw a person who was known to have a warrant for criminal possession of a weapon.

Police say the person ran from the officers, and barricaded himself inside his home. Additional police and SWAT, along with the Crisis Negotiation Team responded to the scene.

The ordeal turned into a standoff that lasted about five hours before 32-year-old Chad Stanbro surrendered to officers.

Stanbro is charged with Obstruction of Governmental Administration, and is now in the Chemung County jail, being held on the warrant.


ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Thursday evening around midnight, police officers surrounded a home on West First Street and Elm Street in the City of Elmira.  

According to WENY reporters at the scene -- police were heard on a megaphone asking someone to put down a gun and to come out of the house.  

The area was also blocked off as officers were responding 

No further details have been shared about who it was and the reasoning for the incident.
