PAINTED POST, N.Y. (WENY) -- The owner of The Last Stand stepped up to help Tuesday afternoon after an accident occurred at her Horseheads ice cream shop over the weekend. All the profits made today at the Painted Post location will be donated to the family whose children were pinned by a car on Saturday.

“The best thing we could think to do for the family that was involved is to put someone on to raise money for them,” Cierra Chaploney, owner of The Last Stand, said.

The community rallied together and flooded the ice cream shop to show their support for the affected family.

“I have four kids of my own...just thinking of being in that mom’s shoes...I can’t imagine,” she said.

An 11-year-old and a 13-year-old were hospitalized on Saturday afternoon after being pinned by a car, when it crashed into the ice cream shop. Police said the car accelerated into the building after a crash at the intersection in front of the business.

As a mother, Chaploney said, she wanted to do anything she could to help the family.

“Every dime of profit that we make today is going to go to this family,” she said. “We have our jar out...that’s really filling up quickly...which we so appreciate. I’m just so blessed that the whole community came out here.”

Corning resident Madison Favitta and Hornell resident Ava Mayer wanted to travel to the ice cream shop in Painted Post to sprinkle some love and donate to the fundraiser.

“My sister kind of brought to my attention that there was an incident in Horseheads, and I was like, ‘We should definitely step out and donate. It would be great for the cause,’” Mayer said.

Favitta and Mayer said even though they do not know the affected family, their hearts are with them.

“I hope they are okay and make a good recovery,” Favitta said.

Mayer said this situation is difficult for the family and the community.

“It’s very unexpected and I just really hope they make it out okay,” she said. “It’s very hard because they’re so young.”

New York State Police said on Saturday the children were stable in the hospital.

The Last Stand is located at 73 Victory Highway in Painted Post. Customers can stop by until 9:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening.
