UPDATE: 3 p.m. 4/25/24 -- According to the Elmira Fire Department, the occupant of the downstairs apartment was transported to the hospital when they sustained injuries escaping the fire. Fire officials say no one was in the home when they arrived, but that it took roughly 40 minutes to put out the fire. 

According to the Elmira Fire Department, up to 50 percent of the home sustained fire damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation. 

 

ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- Fire crews are on the scene of a house fire at an apartment home on Elmira's south side.

The call for a fire came in a little after noon on Wednesday, in the area of Franklin and Herrick Streets in Elmira. 

Elmira Police blocked off the surrounding streets as the Elmira Fire Department worked to put out the fire, focusing attention on the second story. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation. No word at this time if there were any injuries.
