CORNING, N.Y. (WENY) -- The annual Regional Job Fair returned to SUNY Corning Community College on Wednesday afternoon. Organizers of the event wanted to bring back this event because the need for skilled workers in the Southern Tier is great.

Over 60 employers across Chemung, Schuyler, and Steuben Counties came out to connect with everyone from C.C.C. undergraduates and graduates to members of the community.

“These is a very high need for jobs in this area that we’re hoping to fill,” Amanda Lee-Copp, Organizer for Coordinative Career & Transfer Services at SUNY C.C.C., said.

Representatives gave their pitches on why certain individuals could be a perfect fit for their next job opportunities. Everyone had a chance to connect and network, ask questions, and exchange resumes.

Lee-Copp said this type of event is crucial to the community because there are many job positions that need to be filled in the area.

“From manufacturing to nursing and healthcare to administration...there’s a really high need and we are trying to fill that...with this in-person fair,” she said.

Tiffany Story laced up her vagabond shoes and recently moved to New York State from Colorado and currently lives in Canandaigua. Now, she is getting prepared to settle down in Hammondsport. Story said this event was exactly what she needed to get a job lined up for her next big move.

“I love the people here,” she said. “They’re really helpful in finding where to get good jobs.”

Story said representatives also shared useful information with her about which jobs would suit her best and where they are located.

“It helped me,” she said. “’Maybe this area might not be good because of the drive,’ because I’m new...I don’t know where I’m going. So, it was a great opportunity to explore the different jobs this area has.”

Lee-Copp said this event is about helping people, which in turn, benefits the community.

“We are trying our hardest to keep our local graduates here...give back to New York State and our local economy,” she said.
