(WENY) -- A 54-year-old-man formerly of Newark Valley in Tioga County, New York was sentenced on April 18th to just over 13 years in federal prison for possession of child sex materials. As part of his plea, David VanHousen, admitted that while he was committed to New York Psychiatric Center after several sex offense and child pornography-related convictions, he was found with numerous child sex videos and images on a contraband cell phone. 

In 2001 VanHousen was convicted of Sexual Misconduct and Rape in New York State court, and Transportation of Child Pornography in federal court. Along with his sentenced of 13 years and four months, VanHousen was also sentenced to a life term of supervised release along with having to register as a sex offender. 

According to prosecutors, the case was handled by the FBI Mid-State Child Exploitation Task Force, which is comprised of FBI Special Agents and Investigators of the New York State Police.
