HORNELL, N.Y. (WENY) -- On Tuesday, The New York State Department of Transportation is asking for local input for a road project on Route 36 in Hornell.

According to the project plan, 3 miles of the road through Downtown Hornell will be reconstructed from Cass Street to Interstate 86 in Hornellsville. NYSDOT plans to also improve the intersection of NY-36 and County Route 66, to reduce congestion and increase safety. Crews plan to also install new pedestrian and bicycle paths along NY-36 from Main St. to County Route 70A.

The meeting is scheduled from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Hornell Senior High School. Engineers will present several redesign options to the community, followed by an open-house session for folks to give feedback on the plans.

Construction is currently scheduled to begin in the Fall of 2026, according to NYSDOT. The redesign will not be finished until the Winter of 2028 or 2029. The project is expected to cost around $55,000,000.

The NYSDOT says if you would like to attend and need accommodations for the meeting you should contact them at [email protected]. No RSVP is required.
