CHEMUNG COUNTY, N.Y. (WENY) -- It's National Small Business Week, and The Chemung County Chamber of Commerce is highlighting the importance of local businesses.  On 'Welcome Wednesday', The Little Lounge Indoor Play Cafe was welcomed into the Horseheads community.

"Small businesses are the backbone of every community and the same is [said] for Chemung County. When you take a look at our blueprint, it's small businesses. We are very fortunate to have the manufacturers and the banking industry, but small businesses are really the backbone. I keep on saying that, but it's true, and also what I'm witnessing in the last couple years, is just this amazing growth of people that are going out there and taking the chance and opening [businesses] and they're supporting one another," said Jennifer Herrick-McGonigal, the president of the Chemung County Chamber of Commerce.

The Little Lounge has its ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday.  It's a indoor cafe that caters to kids from six months old to about eight years old.  There are a variety of toys inside, a coffee bar, and many activities for kids to do.

"It has been very exciting. This was something that I was hoping to do in the area for many, many years. It was definitely a long process and a lot of work, but we're very excited to be where we are today," said Jaclyn Perkins, one of the owners of The Little Lounge Indoor Play Cafe.

The owners of The Little Lounge said the small business community in Chemung County have been a welcoming support system.

"One of the best things about our community is the support we've gotten from all of our local businesses, and that's something I didn't anticipate when we opened the business," said Chris Perkins, one of the owners of The Little Lounge Indoor Play Cafe.

The Little Lounge Indoor Play Cafe is open for business.  They are located at 2898 Westinghouse Road, Suite 560 Horseheads, NY 14845.  Hours and events can be found on their website, here

Small business week is being celebrated until Saturday, and each day has a different theme.  The Chemung County Chamber of Commerce said they encourage the community to go out and support small businesses.
