Paddling on Seneca Lake with Finger Lakes Cycle Boats
WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (WENY) -- Finger Lakes Cycle Boats has officially docked on Seneca Lake. Owners of the boating company said their Seneca Siren cycle boat is the first of its kind in the Finger Lakes region for tourists and locals to enjoy.
"Tourists are coming here...they might not know anyone with a boat, probably don't own a boat, and this is a way to get out on the water," Sam Hale, co-owner of Finger Lakes Cycle Boats, said.
The co-owners of Finger Lakes Cycle Boats are best friends and had the idea to bring an operating paddle boat to the lake, years ago.
"It spawned from the idea back in 2015," Chris Marriott, co-owner of Finger Lakes Cycle Boats, said. "I was in Portland, Oregon, and I saw a peddle boat for the first time and...living in the Finger Lakes...I was like, 'there's got to be a way to put that on the water.'"
Now, Marriott and Hale are ready to make some waves with friends who want to go on a scenic bicycle ride while cruising on a boat. People can bring their own alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages aboard, as well as food from their favorite restaurants.
"It's a complete group activity," Marriott said. "You get a family of 10 to 15 people coming out...they're all cycling, they're all having a good time."
Two-hour trips out on Seneca Lake will be going on all summer.
