HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) -- A reported fire at the Quality Inn in Horseheads recently allowed Code Enforcement to take custody of the property to do a full fire inspection. The topic was discussed at Thursday's Village board meeting, and the board addressed the 30 violations that were recently cited at the property.

"We have a responsibility to all people that inhabit all hotels and motels in the Village of Horseheads," says Mayor Kevin Adams.

According to Village Mayor Kevin Adams, the recent fire is creating the opportunity to do more frequent inspections.

"We have to make a commitment and the board has made a commitment to looking at the fire inspection schedule to make sure we are doing our do diligence in going further than what is state-manded to make sure that those people who reside in our hotels and motels are safe," added Adams.

The topic was discussed briefly but in-depth and it was decided by Mayor Adams to revisit this agenda item at future meetings. Adams told WENY News he tentatively plans to discuss code, the frequency of fire inspections, fines for owners who are going to disobey, and more.

The next Village of Horseheads meeting will occur on Thursday, June 20th at 6:00 pm at 202 South Main Street.
