ALBANY, N.Y. (WENY) -- The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation announced that the 2024 large and smallmouth bass season will begin on June 15th.

The Southern Tier has lauded as one of the best fishing locations in the state thanks to many acclaimed destinations. The DEC has stated that the Chemung River as one of the best fishing spots in all of New York State. Cayuga Lake and the Chenango River in Broome County also share this honor.

Large and smallmouth bass are collectively known as Black Bass, and the popularity of Black Bass Season help drive the state's tourism industry.

This year's season is to run until November 30th, and then to be followed by a catch-and-release season running from December 1st through June 14th.
