ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) - Two local students received significant academic scholarships honoring the legacy of Ernie Davis.

Sadie Beres of Corning-Painted Post High School is the 36th recipient of the Ernie Davis Scholarship. She will receive a total of $15,000 over four years, to go towards her college tuition and expenses.

Additionally, C-PP senior, Sofia Scouten is the recipient of the Marty Harrigan Scholarship, named after Ernie Davis' football coach at Elmira Free Academy. Scouten will receive $10,000 to go towards her college expenses at the University of Vermont.

Both awards are given to students who go above and beyond in spreading the word about Ernie Davis and his lasting legacy.
